Side table and table
During most of human history a table was a surface around which people gathered to eat or work. Accompanying the modernity of the Enlightenment age, leisure and entertainment brought the gaming table, the occasional table of Louis XVI, and later the side table and coffee table of the Victorian parlour to display and organise our possessions. Those uses were redefined by the modernists of the Art Déco movement and mid-century designers.
