Matégot saw the possibility in industrial metal offcuts — bending and perforating what was left over, making the material more flexible than its origin suggested.

Mathieu Matégot trolley, France, 1950s. Bent and perforated sheet metal — rigitulle — his patented technique used from 1953 to 1959. Matégot bent and perforated sheet metal into the appearance of lacework — industry and delicacy in the same gesture. He worked alongside Prouvé, Perriand, Royère, and Adnet before returning to painting and tapestry in 1960.

Original paint and condition. Minor oxidation. Excellent condition.
