Atlas administrative de la ville de Paris map of the 3 and 4 arrondissements  ( Administrative atlas of the city of Paris map of the 3 and 4 arrondissements ) from 1885 . Those maps were used to survey and managed the urban devellopment of the city  with very detailed informations. Carte d'etat major ( ordnance map )  were created by the War ministry  and other ministry to create a topographical record during the 19th and early 20th  century following the " age of reason " approach to society.
The City of Paris is divided into twenty arrondissements municipaux, administrative districts, referred to as arrondissements (pronounced [aʁɔ̃dismɑ̃].
