French modernist set of chairs made in the 1950's by Mathieu Mategot , it is made with his trademark bent metal rigitule adding a whimsical effect .He designed furniture and object for a short time , in 1960 he went back to painting and tapestry work .He was with Prouvé, Perriand, Royère, Adnet, and the ceramist Georges Jouve in development of various projects, one of the most renowned French designers of this time. This piece is made with his trademark perforated sheet metal or "rigitule" which he invented and used from 1953 to 1959. It was protected by a patented copyright so there is no copy or look alike .The chairs have been recently professionaly refurbished , you can see some of the old oxidation under the new coat of paint. This line of chair is documented by Patrick Favardin in the Norma Edition with multiple version. This version feature the original rigitulle with the dot and trefle on the backing .
Size H.25 x W.24 in x D.23 in , good original antique condition ,there is some scratches from normal use , if you are only looking for nice pieces with history it will be perfect for you.
