Interesting pair of bergere from the late 19th in the Napoleon III style , the carving is the real thing not " applique" ( meaning not a molded piece glued over wood). The frame is solid mahogany with ebonized carving which was a style developed during the reign of Louis Philippe and Napoleon the third .The frame has been refreshed , the upholstery has been redone with vintage French linen , the broidery initial was the letter of the original owner who never used it ,those linen were their " best" so as such were left most of the time in a cupboard .There are bronze cast wheel which is also a 19th feature. This pair will provide a nice warm touch in any modernist setting or classical theme.Louis-Philippe, Duke (duc) d’Orléans, byname Citizen King, French Roi Citoyen, (born Oct. 6, 1773, Paris, France—died Aug. 26, 1850
