Basset ( Rue Jacque) edited and published this topographic map of Spain and Portugal, Herisson eleve de Bonne is the cartographer , Rigobert Bonne (1727-1794) is a French geographer, hydrographer and cartographer, master of mathematics of the eighteenth century. Herisson updated Bonne work producing abundant work between 1810 to 1820. The Academie Royale des Sciences created under Louis XIV by Colbert ,D'anville and Delisle the main fonder of the academy brought scientific rigor and discipline to the geographic artistry , establishing clear boundaries and system of transportation being the principle focus of Colbert .Those maps reflect the idea that science and order would better society .Today they are a testimony of the age of " enlightenment ".It is an engraving from a cooper plate of metal plate just after the French revolution when the art of map making was transiting toward mass printing . It will make a great display framed on a wall .

21 x 31 inches, 53 cm x 80 cm Condition report: Good condition; light toning and occasional faint age spots; some marginal handling marks , some fading and paper peeling.It was part of a large atlas , 2 side were folded so there is a small folding line.
