The Delagrave publishing house was founded in 1865 through the purchase by Charles Delagrave of a modest publishing collection of classical Greek and Latin authors. This publishing house benefited from the impetus given to secular education by the Third Republic. The publisher quickly expanded into a wide range of disciplines (history, geography, mathematics, natural sciences, philosophy, astronomy).
Dated after 1870 : Alsace Loraine part of the Germany 1871 , Congo is not yet named free state of Congo ( 1877) and is mostly unexplored ( see picture) , polar island of Frantz Joseph land in the North pole sea (1872), Alaska ( 1867). Overall all of the countries are easy to read and to discern. The printing is really nice and well done , this type of globe belongs to the tradition of globe making of the 19th century : 12 full gores on a solid ball of plaster .The Delagrave globes have been described as a" fine quality engravings with simple, practical cartography" .
Charles Auguste Perigot (“Professeur d’Histoire et de Geographie au Lycee Saint Louis”1828-1885) was a French geographer and historian , his work is found with different editor of the time .
This unique physical globe is completely original but still in good condition ( small dent in the lower part of the Pacific ) , it is a good value due to the scarcity of globe of this quality in term of historical content and decorative cachet .
