At the end of the 19th century public education created the need for teaching tools from terrestrial globes to books, printing boards and classroom aids. From early chromolithography to later offset printing, those boards show us a world where human roles had not yet been replaced by automation. A craftsman, a farmer, a printer at work, or a homemaker is not nostalgia but the picture of a world wanting to create order in a chaotic time, believing in modernity. History is rewritten to demonstrate constant progress toward an orderly civilisation
