Paris Pittoresque early photographies of Haussmann "urban renovation " 1860

Haussmann opened Paris to effective police control and thwarted the recurrent demonstration of its well-known revolutionary fervor , the small street made protest easier . On the map made before 1860 the work of "urban renovation " of the Baron Haussmann was not started ( 1853 -1870) so most of medieval neighborhoods are still in place.  Charles Marville (1813 - 1879) was commissioned by the city of Paris to document both the picturesque, medieval streets of old Paris and the broad boulevards and grand public structures under Emperor Napoleon III reign. It all come to an end with the 1870 war with Prussia , but the city we know is still here today. The Thiers fortification , an enclosure constructed between 1841 and 1846  proposed by the then  French prime minister Adolphe Thiers was actually implemented by his successor. Today it became what is know as the "Boulevard Périphérique " or freeway after it was eradicated in 1919 ( last picture )
