FRENCH Art-Deco Chandelier 4 lights Delatte Nancy 1920
Made in France in the 1920's this chandelier is signed Delatte , André Delatte (1887–1953) began his career as a banker. Among his clients were the Muller Frères family of Lunéville — celebrated Art Nouveau and Art Deco glassmakers. Through regular visits to their studios he developed a deep interest in glassmaking — particularly the chemistry of colour and glass processing. He left banking, studied chemistry formally, and devoted himself entirely to the craft. He conceived glass pieces that were blown directly at the Muller Frères workshop in Lunéville so we are full circle looking at a Muller production .
It is the last time in France that it was possible to produce and offer pieces of this quality; the mass production of the 1950's was just around the corner, and the page was turned on small ateliers, to make way for the age of cost saving. While very dramatic it will fit any modernist interior, and can bring a warmer touch to a pure modern style furniture interior.
The brass frame featured the "organic leaves and flowers " or "cornucopia " symbol of natural abundance which was a recurring motive motive .
