1860 DELAGRAVE small French terrestrial antique globe 6 inches Perigot

Charles Périgot was a prominent 19th-century French geographer, professor, and cartographer. He is remembered for his significant contributions to geography education in France and his collaboration with several globe editor , Delagrave , Ikelmer and some Forest .This small globe well printed with attention to detail was to be on a desk or a cabinet de curiosity .While published by Delagrave in the 1970's the cartography reflects the geographical boundaries of 1860 " Congo is not yet named free state of Congo ( 1877) and is mostly unexplored ( see picture) , Pesth instead of Budapest and omission of the polar island of Frantz Joseph land in the North pole sea (1872), Alaska still named American Russia ( 1867) , the Austria not yet including Hungary post 1867 . Overall all of the countries are easy to read and to discern. The printing is really nice and well done , this type of globe belongs to the tradition of globe making of the 19th century : 12 full gores on a solid ball of plaster .The Delagrave globes have been described as a" fine quality engravings with simple, practical cartography" .The Delagrave family were the most preeminent school supplier in France in the 19th .

This unique physical globe is complete original very good condition , it is a good value due to the scarcity of globe of this quality in term of historical content and decorative cachet .

Globe size around 6 " H. 12.5 " good condition , still with its original varnish .
