Collaboration de la Maison Asselbur et du célèbre céramiste Georges Jouve (1910-1964).
This French modernist set of 4 sconces made in the 1950's is the result of George Jouve collaboration with Asselbur including a Mategot Lampshade (with its trademark rigitulle , see attached picture ) , you can Google to find several example on other dealer's sites. Jouve worked on several sea creature theme including a Mermaid so this sea horse ceramic piece is a natural fit for his artistry. The texture and finish is totally in line with his creation . The Mategot touch is not surprising since they created a series of standing ashtray and light together. The combination of classical French design and modernist style will create a warm contrast in any mid century interior or classical set up .It is documented that Jouve , Mategot and Asselbur have been working together . There is a signature which can be hard to read .The rigitulle from Mategot was copyrighted and protected so it is not some reproduction or copy .
