FRENCH ART DECO SIDE TABLE ATTRIBUTED TO DOMINIQUE
Made in France in the late 1930's this side table is a perfect example of the cubist design which flourished just before W.W.2.This piece has a distinctive DOMINIQUE touch with Their streamlined style but elegant style. Dominique (André Domin and Marcel Genevriere) defined themselves as an "innovator and classicist, and champions of the tradition leading toward the future." Infatuated with functionalism, they created solidly constructed furniture, very sober and often times completely lacking of all decor .Those pieces are influenced by Cubism, clearly outlined in their highly geometric forms , but despite their sometimes imposing exterior, the pieces are comfortable and created with an awareness of and concern for their intended function. I found a reference which convince me that it is one of their creation ( see picture from Art et decoration ).Ebonized base with flamed walnut.I bought it in France so it is guaranty to be an original French art deco piece of the modernist movement.
