FRENCH ART DECO ROYERE CLUB CHAIR

Made in France in the 1930's those armchairs blend style and comfort , often imitated and reproduced I am offering you the real thing . Those Armchairs were made by " la Maison Mauge" for an armateur in Le Havre. Jean Royere did a lot of work there including the " Chamber of Commerce" . He was established in this town from 1926 to 1932 , futhermore he keep working with August Perret when he moved to Paris. This pair of club chairs illustrated his first approach to functionalism over form.Later his style become more lyric with very baroque and almost kitsch design. CAUTION :The leather have been redone with new leather hand stained to match the old leather.Size H.30 x L.34 xW.25 , cushion L.24 xW.20, this is a pair for sale , you can see both of them in the last picture . One of the numerous version of this style of Armchair that Royere made.
Jean Royere designed a lot of interior for the French Cruiseliner until the 1970 's , this pair of chairs is made of solid oak with a very light " cerusee" effect , I found them very interesting as they reflect the influence of the UAM on the then young Jean Royere. Today they still look moderne and fresh , click on the thumbnails to see the detailling like the wrap around arms with the slant toward the back which he used on most of his armchairs until the 1960's.
